Author(s): Song, Z; Sun, X; Wang, LW | Abstract: Twisted bilayers of van der Waals materials have recently attracted great attention due to their tunable, strongly correlated phenomena. Here, we investigate the chirality-specific physics in three-dimensional moire superlattices induced by Eshelby twist. Our direct density functional theory calculations reveal helical rotation leads optical circular dichroism and nonlinear Hall effect, even though there is no magnetization or magnetic field. Both these phenomena can be reversed changing structural chirality. This provides a path constructing materials.

Universal classification of twisted, strained and sheared graphene moiré superlattices
Moiré superlattices in graphene supported on various substrates have opened a new avenue to engineer graphene's electronic properties. Yet, the exact crystallographic structure on which their band structure depends remains highly debated. In this scanning tunneling microscopy and density functional theory study, we have analysed graphene samples grown on multilayer graphene prepared onto SiC an...
متن کاملMoiré superlattices at the topological insulator Bi2Te3
We report on the observation of complex superlattices at the surface of the topological insulator Bi2Te3. Scanning tunneling microscopy reveals the existence of two different periodic structures in addition to the Bi2Te3 atomic lattice, which is found to strongly affect the local electronic structure. These three different periodicities are interpreted to result from a single small in-plane rot...
متن کاملTwisted sectors in three-dimensional gravity
Twisted sectors –solutions to the equations of motion with nontrivial monodromies– of three dimensional Euclidean gravity are studied. We argue that upon quantization this new sector of the theory provides the necessary (and no more) degrees of freedom to account for the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of three-dimensional black holes. متن کاملMultiple hot-carrier collection in photo-excited graphene Moiré superlattices
In conventional light-harvesting devices, the absorption of a single photon only excites one electron, which sets the standard limit of power-conversion efficiency, such as the Shockley-Queisser limit. In principle, generating and harnessing multiple carriers per absorbed photon can improve efficiency and possibly overcome this limit. We report the observation of multiple hot-carrier collection...
متن کاملThree-dimensional nanocrystal superlattices grown in nanoliter microfluidic plugs.
We studied the self-assembly of inorganic nanocrystals (NCs) confined inside nanoliter droplets (plugs) into long-range ordered superlattices. We showed that a capillary microfluidic platform can be used for the optimization of growth conditions for NC superlattices and can provide insights into the kinetics of the NC assembly process. The utility of our approach was demonstrated by growing lar...
